Clwydian Offa’s Dyke Race

This 17.5 mile (27.5k) race with 3,500′ (1067m) of climb was made harder by some warm weather. 18 runners took on the race starting in Llandegla and finishing in Bodfari.

The winner in an amazing time of 2 hours 11 was Jez Brown of Buckley. The first woman was Katy Baugh in 3 hours 46.

Denbigh Trail Running Festival Children’s Race

Two great races on Friday evening for two age groups: Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6.

There was a dead heat for first in the Year 3 & 4 race boys’ category between Elis Martin and Kai Jones. Rose Hayes won the Girls’ The full results are below.

The  Year 5 & 6 race was closely fought too with Morgan Jones timing his race perfectly to finish in front of Maisy Parry.

Running with Nordic Poles – Denbigh Trail Running Festival

A good turn out for this session tonight where we learnt about using Nordic poles as an aid to running. We looked at climbing and descending techniques and had a good work out at the same time.

Denbigh Harriers Fairy Freckled Cow Trail Race 2017

This year was the 11th year that Denbigh Harriers have organised  the 11k trail race round the Alwen reservoir named after the Fairy Freckled Cow legend that originated in the area. There were nearly record entries for the race with 141 entrants from Wales and England. The race was also the North Wales Trail Running Championships.

The race was very competitive at the front with Tom Roberts from Meirionnydd running club recording the fastest time achieved on the course finishing in 38.16. Second was Paul Wathan Eryri Harriers from  finishing in 39.13 which  would have won last years race. He was closely followed by Richard Shearer from Wrexham AC in 39.52.  In the Women’s race Gemma Morgans from Eryri Harriers won in a superb time of 46.57 followed by Carolyn Stamper-Clark in 49.09 and Ceri Cook from Buckley Runners in 49.22.

There were 20 Denbigh Harriers helping organise the race as well as 15 runners making this a very successful club event which was well received by both runners and spectators. The first Denbigh harrier home was Shaun Hughes followed closely by Tony Wood. The first Denbigh Harrier woman home was Kate Wilson.

Trail Running with Nordic Poles

Trail Running with Nordic Poles 7.30pm Denbigh Leisure centre.

Cost Free with optional donation charity

Numbers are limited to 12 people so please register here

All equipment is provided but if you have your own poles with straps on the handles please register and come along.

Please turn up in suitable off road running gear.

If you watch any long distance mountain running event in Europe or the USA you see people using poles while running.

Mountain Navigation

Mountain navigation Training Tuesday, 4th July 6.30 – Dave Say will teach you how to navigate efficiently and safely on the mountains using a map and compass. Dave is a qualified outdoor instructor with a lifetime’s worth of experience teaching and running in the mountains.

Location – Kinmel Arms, Llandyrnog. Please park by the side of the road and not in the pub car park. Car sharing is strongly advised.

Cost – £2 including a map and the 5k navigation race.

Equipment – if you have a navigation compass and a pencil please bring it with you

Mountain navigation race Tuesday, 4th July 6.30 – this is a fun 5K race to put your new skills to the test on the Pen-y-Cloddiau hills.

After the race we will retire to the Kinmel Arms for refreshments.
