For many runners getting out of the door for a run can be a challenge. Evidence shows that having others to run with not only incentivises people to train but also helps them train better. This is why running clubs are the best value way of getting fitter and improving performance in the long term. Denbigh Harriers is a running club proud of its friendliness, inclusiveness and the achievements of all of its members. We have a membership of over 100 runners of all abilities and ages (currently 20 – 80). All members are encouraged and supported by a team of 15 Welsh Athletics qualified members with either a Leadership in Running Fitness or Coach in Running Fitness qualification. This support might be for anything between someone wanting to improve their Parkrun time to a member running a tough mountain ultramarathon. The club runs up to four sessions throughout the week for those who want to improve their endurance, speed, strength, running form or simply socialise. Having said this, some of the best support comes from fellow members who are more than willing to help with their own experience and time.
The club has had great success in all the forms of running with national and regional representation in road, cross country, track and fell running. The club currently has members holding Regional and Welsh age category titles and records. We are an active club which takes part in all sorts of running events in the region but we also arrange some great club events throughout the year. These events include social events, club runs on the Clwydians or Snowdonia, running trips away and our own famed handicap events that put all members on an equal footing for races across the fields around Denbigh. Throughout the year we organise 11 club handicap races and all members are welcome and stand a realistic chance of winning.
With an annual membership fee of £25 (£17.50 is paid to Welsh Athletics) we are one of the cheapest affiliated running clubs in the UK. For your membership you get a £2 discount for every road race you enter. You will be legible for regional and national championship races of which there are at least eight a year in North Wales. You get a discount in a number of running and outdoor stores. Your membership also insures you for public liability when running. If you are interested you also get support for coaching qualifications. Most importantly your membership gives you the combined support of over 100 like minded people.
If you are interested and want to try it out please turn up at Denbigh Leisure centre by the all weather pitch on a Monday evening at 6.30pm or on a Tuesday ant 6pm and introduce yourself. www.denbighharriers.com
