Perfect conditions – 16C and sunny with little wind, short grass and dry ground – the only problem being that the ditch had been dredged and made deeper. Diane made a very good effort to win this one but was caught with only 200m to go and finished 5th. It gave her points total a considerable improvement though, and continued her challenge for the title. Classy runs from Emma, Tony W (despite seized quads from Ben Nevis), and Joe W (only 36 seconds outside Shaun’s record), but all overshadowed by birthday boy Ron who can be excused for not being quite as fast as last month when he was only 79.

* Best of 5 races.
Of those with 5 races completed, Tony B is comfortably in the lead and Phil is second but Diane has another 19th position to drop, will keep the same start time, and seems to be getting quicker. If she finishes 5th next time her total will equal Tony’s at 31. Of course Phil and Tony may go quicker from their unchanged start times too. All to play for in October (which will be at 6pm in fading light).
