Denbigh Harriers Weekly Report 7/3/20

12 Denbigh Harriers made the trip to sunny but blustery Llandudno on Saturday for the rearranged Nick Beer 10k. The rearranged race had to use an alternative route due to a landslide on the Great Orme. This route consisted of two of laps of the Llandudno prom either side of a hilly detour. The wind had an effect on the race especially on the last mile on the prom towards the finish as well as blowing sand into the runners eyes towards the West shore. There were some great personal bests for Huw Williams, Rebekah Dumayne and Jessica Jones with a 3rd M65 category prize for Fred Jones.

Today’s results and report from Nick Beer:

The Carding Mill Canter was a new one for the 3 three harriers On Sunday. This was a Welsh Championships race but as it was held in England many of the runners came from English clubs. This was graded as an AS race which means lots of climbing over a short distance – 5.1 miles and 1900’. There were four hills and a couple of them very steep which required using hands in places. The runners were very lucky with the weather as it was raining before the race and poured down after the finish. It was a great course with treacherous descents and those of course those hills. David Baugh managed to keep his daughter, Katy Baugh, behind he is not sure how long that is going to last for. Katy finished as the 1st Senior Lady and Menai Baugh picked up the 2nd W60.

69th Katy Baugh1:01:29
112th Menai MBaugh 1:12:15

Three Denbigh Harriers travelled to Wrexham to take part in the RunWales 10 and 20 mile races in Wrexham. Although not as wet as previous years the weather still didn’t know what to do with itself. The runners were hit by rain; a good few gusts to dry off and then the reward of some sunshine. The course had enough inclines and country road detours to keep it interesting and the Harriers were rewarded with some good times. Cary Davies has an excellent run in the 10 miler just a day after running the Nick Beer 10k, showing just how much her strength and speed are growing – 7th F, 2nd F40 ( 1:20:59) Mel Morris and Lisa Pope both preparing for marathons, were in the 20 mile race. Mel, who had also ran the Nick Beer 10k, was first Harrier home in a 20 mile PB of 2:41:40. Lisa was on her third tough race in as many weekends showed how ready she is for London in a fantastic time of 2:54:40
