The midweek Ponderosa Fell Race was held in murky conditions but very well attended with runners wanting to test themselves on the 4 mile and 800foot race over the moors. The race has a half a mile climb to the finish making it important to leave something in reserve for the end of the race. There were five Denbigh Harriers racing with Tony Wood continuing his improving form in 8th place with Mari Williams leading the Denbigh women home closely followed by Katy Baugh. Menai Baugh was a close second in her category despite taking 5 minutes off her pervious time for this race.
8th Tony Wood 29.43
53rd Mari Wiliams 37.03
55th Katy Baugh 37.25
64th Menai Baugh 39.39
73rs Peter Lester-Owen 40.29
Five Denbigh turned out for the tough North Wales Half Marathon. This race starts and finishes on the beach near Conwy marina, with a mile stretch over heavy sand, ridges filled with sea water making for slow going. A nice flat stretch to Penmaenmawr, then a long climb up Sychnant Pass, turning onto an off road section with even more climb before a fast descent down a rough path down to Conwy before returning on 2 miles of flat until the final mile on the sand. There was strong running by all in humid conditions. Emma Collins finished in 1:47:03 1st in age category, Carys Davies in her first race for the club finished in 2:06:15, Hayley Lloyd-Roberts ran well for 2:14:36, Ian Jones completing his 12 half marathon in 12 months finished in 2:19:47 and Rob Parry hadn’t run for 3 weeks, having pulled out of he snowdonia trail half with an injury finished in 2:36:33.
There were Harriers running Parkruns in venues far and wide.
