Denbigh Harriers Weekly Report 18/5/19

The Cader Idris Fell Race is one of the main fixtures of the year in Wales and this year there was a large field assembled in Dolgellau for this classic. Mari Williams took on her first big mountain race and seemed unperturbed by the steep and craggy route. First Harrier Home was Tony Wood who like David Baugh and Sioned LLoyd who followed him in still had the effects of last week’s race in his legs. It was a great day in the mountains with excellent views, camaraderie and running throughout.

Chris Baldwin took part in the Welsh Senior and Inter Regional Trail Running Championships at Builth Wells. Strangely, The race was 10K but the steep inclines made it feel a lot longer. Chris was 4th in his M65 age category.

There were perfect conditions on the three versions of the undulating 2 lakes races held at Llyn Brenig and taking in Llyn Alwen for the longer distances. First underway was the half marathon where it was a lonely race for Melina Morris who in spite of this finished 3rd lady and 9th overall in 1:48:58. Next off was the 10k with Duncan Jones 9th and 1st M60 and first Harrier home in 49:52 and quicker than last year. Next was Fred Jones in 51:39, 12th and 2nd M60 as he builds his mileage up. Next up was Dawn Marshall who had a competitive race all the way round to finish 2 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor in a sprint finish and a time of 63:10, Rebekah Dumayne racing in Denbigh Harriers green for the first time and looked very comfortable as she finished 68:08. In the 5k, Caroline Dawe also pulling on a Harriers vest for the first time was 2nd lady and 6th overall in 29:40.

There were 11 Denbigh Harriers racing in the Chester Half Marathon on Sunday on a humid day but luckily with no wind. There were great performances from all. This is a huge race with thousands of competitors from around the UK so it was a real achievement for Emma Collins to win her F55 category.
