This was another busy weekend of running for Denbigh Harriers. Four Harriers were amongst the 382 who turned out, in perfect weather conditions, for the scenic, but tough, Llangollen Trail 10K, on Sunday. A well organised race with fantastic atmosphere. It’s a challenging route that takes runners through mixed terrain, along the Llangollen canal towpath and then up into the fields and hills above. Shaun Hughes was in excellent form; not just winning the race but also smashing the course record in 36.49. Next Harrier home, with another strong run was Daniel Jones, in 9th position overall and a time of 40.51. Mel Morris (Melina Morris) was first female Harrier across the line, picking up 1st W40 (6th female overall) in 47.05 and then Ruth Crowther finished the Harriers line up in a fantastic 1:02:24 (94th female) marking her return after the Coast Half Marathon 3 weeks ago.
1st 36:49 Shaun Hughes
9th 40:51 Daniel Jones
59th 47:05 Melina Morris
250th 01:02:24 Ruth Crowther
Alaw Medi took on the undulating (800’ of climb) Limerick Marathon in hot conditions and was on target for 3 hours 45 until she hit the infamous wall at 22 miles. However with some encouragement from supporters she completed the race in an excellent personal best of 3.50.04.
Two Harriers ran the Liverpool 10k on Sunday and were delighted with their personal best times. Ieuan Lewis and Lian Jones ran the race together to finish in 1:00:36.
Sarah Bayliss competed in this weekend’s British Orienteering Championships.
In Saturday’s sprint race around Bradford University it was fast, relying on quick navigation and route choice. She was really delighted to finish 7th in women’s vets, the biggest age class. Sunday was the long distance event on open moorland with almost no paths to aid navigation. There were 81 entries in W50, of which 57 ran the long course and Sarah finished 16th, her best result ever.
Three Harriers, Emma Collins, Victoria Whitehead and Tony Benton ventured into the multi discipline Triathlon scene by competing in the Ruthin Sprint event. All completing the event in good times with the details not available yet.
Seven Harriers took ran Parkruns this weekend.
